Dead Fish Drop In is a new Cincinnati band made up of some longtime local musicians who describe their sound with pinpoint accuracy as "grinding swampy pop songs about murder and spaceships."

Fronted by Derek Stinson (on vocals and guitar), the band follows in the similarly oddball footsteps of his previous outfits, like Paper Doll Scissor Fight, 40lbs of Lye and Cletus Romp, who each shared a slanted, eccentric sound that would have made them all the perfect fit on a tour alongside Primus, Modest Mouse, former Cincy weirdos Hogscraper and Queen City legends The Ass Ponys. Stinson is joined in DFDI by drummer Cyndi Stinson, stand-up bassist Matt Flynn and lead guitarist Benjamin Isaacs.

Speaking of The Ass Ponys, Dead Fish Drop In recently unveiled a new music video directed by former AP drummer David Morrison. The energetic, motion-packed clip — featuring a whirl of freerunning and aerial dancing — is for the group's bug-eyed stomper "Old Thoughts."

You can catch DFDI live this Saturday (Nov. 16) at The Comet in Northside. The free, 9 p.m. show also features area acts Dinge and The Actual Fuck.
