Northern Kentucky is becoming progressively smoke-free with the passage of an indoor smoking ban in Bellevue.
The city of Bellevue, Kentucky, is preparing to implement its smoke-free ordinance starting May 15.

The ordinance, which was passed unanimously by Bellevue city council in February, prohibits smoking indoors in any “building or place of employment where the public is invited or permitted, such as offices, hotels, factories, churches, bars, restaurants, bingo halls, bowling alleys and stores,” according to a news release.

The Northern Kentucky Health Department said it has started to pass out packets of information to businesses that outline how they should implement the new city-wide smoke-free law.

“We were asked to enforce the new ordinance in establishments that we inspect, and the Board of Health agreed,” said Jennifer Mooney, Northern Kentucky district director of health. “We congratulate the Bellevue City Council in taking this important step to improve the health of the community.”
Neighboring Dayton, Kentucky passed a similar ban in November, becoming the 33rd city in the state to ban indoor smoking, including in traditionally smoker-friendly bars like Rose Room and Tony’s Ole Saloon.

Bellevue will be the 34th city in the Commonwealth to ban indoor smoking, and the second in Campbell County.
