A North Avondale home with a claim to fame is now on the market.
3848 Dakota Ave., a nearly 5,000-square-foot, traditional-style home built in 1906, was once the home of Florence Turner, CNN founder Ted Turner’s mother. Florence purchased it in 1959 and sold it about five years later to Ursula Hassel, who raised her eight sons there and lived in the home until she passed away in 2022.
The Barazi Group, which is listing the home, says it was well-loved by Ursula, as well as her neighbors, saying 3848 Dakota was known as the place to be in the summer and that it was a treasure chest of happy memories for the neighborhood. Now, it’s ready for a new owner who will love it just as much. And with a welcoming wraparound porch and a gorgeous entryway that includes a grand staircase worthy of an old Hollywood movie, it’s hard not to love this house.
Inside, 3848 Dakota offers both modern luxury and historic charm. The seven-bedroom, five-bath home was recently renovated to include amenities like upgraded modern fixtures from luxury design brands, Z-line appliances, Italian porcelain tile, custom cabinetry and Calacatta Laza Quartz countertops.
But there are still plenty of original details throughout the house, from the hardwood flooring, which features beautiful inlay patterns on the first floor, to the fireplaces, pocket doors and the butler’s pantry’s built-in shelves. The Barazi Group worked to save as much of the original woodwork as it could and repurposed where it could — like moving the butler pantry’s glass doors, which were no longer functioning, to become see-through windows in the kitchen.
3848 Dakota Ave. is listed for $1.175 million. Contact Dania Barazi with the Barazi Group at 330-217-4769 for more information. Find the original listing here.
