Gold Star Chili is getting in on the fun as the biggest celestial event of the year is set to happen Monday, April 8.

On that day, a total solar eclipse will take over the sky, casting a swath of the United States, including the western and northwestern portions of the Greater Cincinnati area, in complete darkness for just about two-and-half minutes (around 3:09-3:17 p.m., depending where you are in this path of totality) as the shadow of the moon moves directly in front of the sun.

To celebrate, Gold Star Chili is bringing back its coveted BOGO Ways for one day only.

On Monday at all participating Gold Star locations, you can get a free 3-, 4- or 5-Way with the purchase of any regular or super Way of equal or lesser value. The offer’s good for drive-thru, dine-in, carryout and online ordering (through Gold Star only) with the use of the code ECLIPSEWAYS.

The Best Places in Greater Cincinnati to Watch the April 8 Total Solar Eclipse

Cincinnati Observatory3489 Observatory Place, Hyde ParkEven if it’s not in the path of totality, what cooler place to watch a total solar eclipse than the Cincinnati Observatory? The observatory will tell you to aim for that path of totality, but if you’re unable to travel, they will have a ticketed event you can join in on instead on Monday, April 8 from 1-4:30 p.m. Attendees can expect a family-friendly atmosphere with kid's activities, crafts, games, sundial demonstrations and safe solar viewing opportunities. There will also be food trucks, or you can bring a picnic to enjoy. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids and observatory members, and you can buy those at the link above.

Miami Whitewater Forest9001 Mt. Hope Road, HarrisonLocated on the outskirts of Cincinnati, Miami Whitewater Forest is the only Great Parks location in the path of totality for the April 8 eclipse. To celebrate, the park will have a variety of educational stations, Citizen Science observations, animal encounters, food and more. You can bring out the camping chairs and set up to watch the eclipse reach totality (around 3:08-3:09 p.m.) and if you need glasses for safe viewing, the park will have some available for free on a first-come-first-serve basis. The festivities kick off at 11 a.m. and park entry will be free. And while these parks are not in the path of totality, Great Parks will also have viewing parties at Sharon Woods (11450 Lebanon Road, Sharonville) and Parky’s Farm (10073 Daly Road, Springfield Township).

Eclipse Watch Parties in OxfordUptown Park: 2 E. High St., Oxford; Oxford Community Park, 6801 Fairfield Road,Oxford; Sculpture Park, 801 S. Patterson Ave., OxfordWith prime real estate in the path of totality, several parks in Oxford will be throwing parties to celebrate the eclipse. From 1-5 p.m., you can visit Uptown Park, Oxford Community Park or Sculpture Park. There will also be activities, food trucks and more in select locations, and if you need glasses, organizers will have a limited number available.

Liberty Center's Eclipse Party7100 Foundry Row, Suite 204, Liberty TownshipFrom 2-4 p.m. Monday, April 8, you can experience the solar eclipse at the Liberty Center. While it’s not quite in the path of totality, according to the map, it’s pretty darn close, so the shopping center is going all out, with free eclipse glasses while supplies last, a mad scientist show, “Lunar Libations,” solar-themed cupcakes, a sun-themed bath bomb pressing station with LUSH, astrology readings from Silver Vixen, a DJ and more.

Holtkamp Winery10868 Woliung Road, SunmanUn-wine-d for path-of-totality eclipse viewing at this Sunman winery. Set up your lawn chairs and bring out your eclipse glasses while you enjoy a delicious brick-oven pizza and a glass (or several) of Holtkamp’s wines. Tasting room and kitchen hours will be from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, April 8.

Eclipse Watch Party at Niederman Family Farm5110 Lesourdsville West Chester Road, Liberty TownshipMake some family memories at Niederman Family Farm’s “solar-bration.” The farm is in the path of totality, so you’ll get a great view of the eclipse, and there’s plenty of other fun to be had while you wait. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $20 and includes a pair of commemorative eclipse glasses, a raffle ticket and unlimited access to activities. For $30, you get the glasses and activities, plus three raffle tickets and a snack pack. Guests 24 months and younger do not need a ticket.

Brookville Lake14108 SR-101, BrookvilleRight in the path of totality, Brookville Lake offers a prime location to set up a camp chair, bring out the snacks and watch the eclipse, or just camp out all weekend. While you’re there, you can also enjoy boating, fishing, hiking and more.
